Summer’s over in South Africa!

I’m sad to say that summer is offically over in South Africa. Right now I’m in Jo’burg and the sun is setting earlier and earlier and the nights are getting cooler. FiancĂ© is in Cape Town this week and he says it’s been hot, hot, hot!

Realities of the new South Africa

Here’s a funny advert I saw on YouTube for the Ford Bantam. Any thoughts?

Houses in South Africa

So Sally writes on my Facebook profile:

hey you know.. i was just wondering the other day .. you know how houses in different countries are laid out and ‘decorated’ differently. For instance, you can look at someone’s picture when they’re in someone’s house in Indo and you can tell it’s an Indo house as opposed to CA. How are the houses there? Congrats on the 42” btw.”

Welcome to my first post!

I finally did it. I started my own blog.

I’ve been living in South Africa for two years now and it’s never occurred to me to start a blog about my experiences as an American expat living in South Africa. For the last couple of months I’ve been contemplating whether I should start a blog or shouldn’t, what I would write about and what kind of theme my blog would be about.

It’s never too late to start something is it? I’ve decided to call it Sweet and Sour, the sweet bits of living in SA and the sour bits that come with it. My South African hubby came up with the idea and I couldn’t think of a better name so it stuck.

What else will the blog be about? Besides my experiences living here, it’ll be about food (because I love food!), travels and my dog Ruby.
